Hello!
I am hoping that someone who lives near Salisbury, or knows the area, may help me answer a question. I have traced my family tree (Whittier family) back as far as 1538 and seem to have hit a dead end. I found a record that Henry Whittier (probably spelled Whytear) and his son Richard Whittier are buried in the parish cemetery. Several family members are also recorded to have been married and baptized in this parish.
My husband and I are traveling to London next month, and we'd love to take a day trip to visit the cemetery, but we are not sure if it still exists? The website for the parish says that it was closed many years ago, and combined with St. Thomas. I am also interested in where I may go to search through parish records for more information on my ancestors?
Thank you in advance for your help. I feel so grateful to have traced back this far, and would love to keep searching! My search was aided by a somewhat famous ancestral Quaker poet and abolitionist, John Greenleaf Whittier. Several books have been written on his life and lineage, which helped me fill in many blanks. Any advice or hints are gratefully accepted!
Many, many thanks,
Mandy Whittier Breton
