Families called - Peare and Brader
« on: Sunday 07 April 13 17:17 BST (UK) »
Hello

I had no idea when I lived in Durban in the 1970's that I would be trying to trace relatives all these years later - so need some help, please.

The family called Peare.  Several people I am sure came to SA, and then a sister then called Brader came just prior to 1900.

Henry Charles Peare born in Wales 1874 - may have married twice to Isabel Hayter and then Phoebe ?.

Andrew John Peare born in Wales and possibly married Caroline Maria ? in South Africa.  May have been in Cape Town.

I have found references on your national archives site and on the 'photograph gravestones' project.

In the early 19th century the Brader family were pianoforte makers in London before moving to Swansea, Wales where they also set up a music publishing business.

Edward Brader and his wife Sarah nee Peare, came to Durban in 1897.

Did Edward set up in music publishing in South Africa also?

Would be happy to receive any information and guidance on searching.
I know it is much more difficult to search than here in the UK.

Regards
Beryl

Hi from Find my past outbound passenger list.
AJ Peare born 1870 left Southampton in 1930 bound for Port Natal Durban. I found 10 records for females named Brader, 8 travelled to Durban. If you make another 2 posts then I can send you the info in a personal message. No private emails allowed on the postings. Try this link http://www.findmypast.co.uk/ then click on search records, select outbound passenger list, enter names in the search box and select South Africa, all ports and enter. Look up Facts about Durban on Google, it has a large amount of history on the site and you can also post requests on it. Also you can also try this site. Please check the Familysearch site regularly as they are adding images of death notices to their collections regularly. You cannot seach for these so click on the Africa link  and the South Africa to see the list of images they have added. Then choose Browse and have fun looking at the images.
This is the link to what they have:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&countryId=1927115.

This is a new site that updates the info on family search regularly.

Hi Derek

Many thanks for reply.

I have all the findmypast entries, but haven't looked at familysearch for a while so will do that.

Have found the facts about durban site and had intended to send a few memories of the 70's but hadn't thought to put a request on there for this info.  So will do both now.

Thanks for the help.

Regards
Beryl
