Maiden Bradley and Mere
« on: Wednesday 01 May 13 22:42 BST (UK) »
Hello all. I'm new on here so I apologise if this is in the wrong place...there are so many posts that I got lost......
I'm just about to start following my Mother's side of the family and my first hurdle is this. My Grandfather ( I was told) was born in Maiden Bradley but his death certificate states Mere. I'm going to make a trip there in the next week or so, so have you an tips that might guide me please.
My Grandfather's name was...George Emmanuel White, born 1880. He married Lily Agnes Derrick (Derick ? ) in I believe 1907...she was from Weymouth.
Any potential relations out there ?
Thanks.
David.

He evidently changed the order of his first names around at some point in his life if you knew him as George.

Do you have George Emmanuel's Army Pension records? They are on ancestry with the address on
the first page 37 Hardwick Street Weymouth, born Maiden Bradley, an ostler, 35 years and 2days old when signing on.

This is amazing...thank you. I've checked the only bit of info I have of him, his death certificate and yes it states Emmanuel George....sorry, my mistake.
With your help I now know his and my Grandmother's parents details...and as I know my mother was born at 37 Hardwick St. Weymouth there is obviously a connection with no 34.
This has really inspired me to delve further.
Again, many thanks,it's appreciated.
David.

On this one he is George and I notice that in both censuses his birth is c 1881. That is a big difference to his age on the marriage cert born c1877. Did he put his age up on that to be older than his wife I wonder. That is if my brain is working ok? ;)

Hi again. Well! Without the risk of you thinking I'm being lazy, I would like the information if possible. I don't know what all the references are as yet and how to find them. So with the info I have I can use that to back up my search to confirm that I know what I'm doing and then I can use the experience to start researching my wife's father.
All this is really much appreciated.
We've now planned a drive to Maiden Bradley and Mere at the weekend for a search of the local graveyards for any of the names.
Thank you again.
David.
