My ancestor was Thomas Hancock 1763-1839, he married Sarah Hendy 1760-1846, date of marriage was 17/01/1784. I am trying to find the parents of Thomas Hancock

I found the following Children Baptised there

Thomas,Baptised 7 Dec 1794
BORN,6 Nov 1794

Joseph,Baptised 6 May 1804
BORN,5 May 1804

I have just found out from Rhosgoch that Joseph and Hester Hancock are not the parents of my ancestor Thomas Hancock 1763-1839, who married Sarah Hendy 1760-1846, date of marriage was 17/01/1784. I have spent weeks researching this and have now come to a complete stop Help!

There was a Philip Hancock baptised in Herbranston in 1761, the son of Richard and Mary Hancock. As your Thomas baptised 2 of his children Philip and Richard, this seems a likely parent for Thomas, and it is the right timeframe. I note that Sarah's father was Joseph Hendy and she had a sister Elizabeth so that covers 2 more of Thomas and Sarah's children.

Hi Susie,

I got the information from the Parish Registers for Hubbertson and Herbrandston. I am afraid you will never know who Thomas Hancock's father is for sure as the registers are so patchy for these early dates.

How much information do you have on Thomas and Sarah Hancock? Do you have their children's baptisms? I found 7 children.  Do you have information on Sarah Hendy's parents - names, marriage, children? There is some information available on the Hendy side in the Hubbertson Parish Records. Very little on the early Hancocks.

The Hancock and Hendy wills seem to refer to different families to yours.

Hope this will give you some ideas to further your research.
