Hi Dennis, I see on the 1891 census that he also stated born Ontario with parents born England.  I am having trouble reading the 1881 census - a census record comes up on *A* that shows a correction for the spelling of their surname and that George Burman was born Scotland? Had no joy either untangling the record shown on the Canadian Archives site either.

Another thing I noticed is that they named their first son, Charles and first daughter Mary which were the christian names of Mary Jane's parents.  If it is correct that George's father was also a George, their second son was named the same and their second daughter was named Jane - maybe a clue here

The 1891 census, taken in April, shows George's age as 42 years - as he died in the Feb of 1938 means he was yet to turn 90 years if born in 1848.  How does this line up with 1901 census?

You may have gone down these paths already, if so, sorry for duplication or adding more confusion  ???
