Catherine Carter and John Wright
« on: Thursday 15 August 13 03:28 BST (UK) »

Looking for information on

Catherine Carter and John Wright.

They were married 22 Aug 1784 at Barkston, Lincolnshire, England - I have in my home tree that I got the info from the igi not sure WHEN I got it, but I can't seem to find it a 2nd time.

But I can NOT find any birth or christenings for them on familysearch.org or
the IGI- a 2nd time  or on Ancestry.

Anybody out there connected to this line

Or have the sources to look for their births and their parents.

Any help, or suggestions of where else to look would be greatly appreciated.

There is a record of the marriage of Catherine Carter and John Wright on 22 Aug 1784 at Barkston on Find My Past.  It is a transcription from the Lincolnshire Family History Society Marriage Index and the image is not shown.

I can't see it on the IGI either

thanks

just going through my stuff  and found this info from another distant connection

John Wright and Catherine Carter [spinster of neighbouring parish of Syston] were married by banns
on 22 Aug 1784 in Barkston.
The marriage was witnessed by William Wright
possibly the groom's brother or father.

but he DIDN'T state where he found the info.....

also just came across a possible census for Catherine Wright.

age 82 in 1851 census
estimated birth year : about 1769

it says she was born in Wilwick, Leicestershire, England

I am assuming she is a widow on the census as she is listed as living with Mary Wright age 36 which could be a granddaughter as it does match with further info I have.
and a John Carter age 21
that also could be connected to her since she her maiden name was Carter.

guess I need to post to the Leicertershire, rootschat to see if anyone there can help???

thanks again

Good luck - If you don't have this link to the coverage of English parishes on the IGI you may  find it useful

thanks I use to have it, but it didn't get uploaded when I upgraded my computer

so IF I need to look for an igi I just google it.

posted on Leicestershire, rootschat....no reply yet

also looked up Wilwick, which is actually Whitwick on the igi but the BIRTHS don't go back that far.
so it was no help.

will keep looking

thanks again

Hi Catherine Wright on the 1851 was indeed a Widow, and Mary is shown as her daughter, in 1841 they are in the same area ie Withybrook, Foleshill, Warwickshire
Census Ref HO107/1136/3017/8

Possibly John Carter is a red herring, as from the 1851 he is just a Farm servant for Catherine?

thanks again

I looked at the original census but it is EXTREMELY hard to read.

couldn't tell WHAT he was

As for Mary being her daughter that would suggest that Catherine was 46 when she had her
and her daughter Mary was born in 1789 but the one on the census was born in 1815....so as I said I think it more likely her granddaughter...who she DOES have born in 1815....

doesn't matter IF I/we can't prove this is the correct person.

The Banns book for 1784 has no marriage witnesses but it does tell you where the bride was living at the time (bottom right) http://www.lincstothepast.com/Marriages--with-banns/522912.record?ImageId=35077&pt=T

Syston is next village to Barkston - map http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=493000&Y=341030&A=Y&Z=120

I think I should mention this baptism (only about 5 miles away) as I can find no other marriage for her https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NGRD-1ZJ

Map - http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=495800&Y=341460&A=Y&Z=126

The last(?) child bap at Barkston in 1791 is consistent with a mother's birth in 1746.

A Catherine WRIGHT was buried at Barkston 4 Dec 1826 "aged 82" and John WRIGHT 10 Feb 1840 "aged 89".

:)
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

thanks for the help

I looked at the page for Lincstothepast.

I even registered but I sure don't get how you are suppose to be able to see anything on these pages.
especially IF you are SEARCHING for something.

I don't think I am using the page correctly???  is the little square with the directions on it, ALWAYS going to be in the way.
and you can't make the image in the square larger....that would be good to start with, other than using the + - buttons....

what can I say.....

the info on there seems to match the info I had previously so, at least I can now say where it was found.
thank you.

as for the baptism

I don't think this is her, she was born around 1764not 1746 as shown on familysearch.org.

good try, but I don't see how it could be her....she would have been 40 when she had her first child....I do think that is a little OLD to be starting a family --- don't you?

As for the last child baptized in 1791....who are you referring to?  the last child is William he was born in 1790.....
but I never noticed that there was ever an age of the mother posted on the baptisms....

is this something else I am missing.

Sorry not trying to be hard to get along with....

As for the burials at Barkston.....is there just the one cemetery?

where did you find THIS info....

I am finding nothing when I look for these things.

thanks once again.
