Searching for Alice Hall, b. 6 Feb. 1899
« on: Friday 23 August 13 18:44 BST (UK) »
Greetings.
I am searching for any information on Alice Hall, born 6 Feb. 1899 in Basford, Nottingham, or for any family information relating to her.  Her mother was Harriet (Fisher) Hall, born 22 June 1873 in Ilkeston, Derby - her father was James Hall, born 1876, possibly from Killamarsh, Derbyshire (this location has not been confirmed).  I have Alice's birth certificate and am looking for a possible marriage for her as well as any descendants.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

Keyboard86 thank you for your post.  My 'Alice' (Hall/Fisher) was born in the Basford Workhouse which I believe matches with your Highbury Road address.  The Hall-Fisher marriage appears to have been 'on and off' and both mother and daughter's surnames appear to go back and forth between the two names.
Alice's mother, Harriet Fisher, is my gr-grandmother and I have all of her ancestry (thanks to a highly respected group on this site!).
Again, thanks!

Hi again. understand now, have you found them in the 1911 Census, ie what surname are they using?

Hi again, if I remember correctly, Harriet Fisher went back and forth between Basford and Bagthorpe Workhouses and I think she was in Bagthorpe in 1911.  She does appear as having been admitted to the Infirmary there, at some point in time.  Harriet also had a son, John Fisher, b. 10 Nov. 1905 (Alice's brother) -  I have all of their birth certificates.
I'm in Canada and don't have access to the 'ancestry' site to search.
Thanks again.

Hi Carol,

1911 Census free search shows
Harriet Fisher 40 Institution Nottingham
John Fisher 6 Institution Nottingham
Alice Fisher 13 Institution Nottingham

At least they are all together and using the name Fisher

Good luck with your search

Sue

Andy, thank you for attaching the original (lengthy) link - I didn't know how to bring it into this thread.

Carol, remember we do not know the name of Alice's father. (as no father is named on her birth certificate) I'm not sure we should assume it is James Hall ..... :-\

I think we should initially be looking for a possible marriage for Alice .....

I have to sign off shortly but will try to help later. In the meantime Carol, have you checked freebmd for any possible marriages? I think it could also be wise to check for deaths too (post 1911) .... Just in case.  :(
