Hi John,
I looked at your other posts. Yorkshire BMD does have the John T Gowen, born 1906 at Hull - have you sent for his birth certificate?
The John Gowen who was born 1873, (probably John's father) does appear on a couple of censuses, but I can find his family from 1881.
The 1881, where the family are living at Row 31, Great Yarmouth
(Ref. RG11 1912/ Folio 134 page 37)
Mother Mary Ann is there, shown as a Smacksman’s wife, but not her husband.
If he was a fisherman, he may well have been at sea when the census was taken.
John seems to be their eldest aged 8, then Edmund, 5 and Emily, 2.
By the time of the 1891 census, the family has grown (Ref. RG12 1501, folio 149 page

Now living at no. 2, Row 30, Great Yarmouth
Again, father not at home, but mother Mary Ann, shown as fisherman’s wife, aged 39
John, fisherman, 19, Edmund 16, Emily 13, Hannah, 10, William, 6, Frederick, 4 and Alice, 1.
For some reason, they’re all shown as being born Norwich - but it must be the same family.
In 1901, the family appear to have moved to Hull.
Living at 60, Manchester Street (Ref RG13/4479 Folio 110 page 27)
Mary Ann Gowen, mother, age 45 ( she may have taken a few years off!) born Norwich,
Hannah, 19 born Yarmouth,
William Henry, 16, born Yarmouth,
Alice Maud, 12, born Yarmouth
George Robert, 6, born Hull.
I couldn’t find either John, but as they’re fishermen, it’s not unusual for them not to be on the censuses.
Haven’t found them yet in 1911, but still looking.
