This caught my eye as our family had intermarriages with Hathorns who had originated from the Wigtownshire area. By 1800 our family were no longer living in that exact part of Scotland.
I have wondered whether the Hathorns and Hawthorns could be the same family and the spelling was still fluid.
Could this post have anything to do with your family?
