Adress in Liverpool
« on: Wednesday 20 August 14 23:17 BST (UK) »
Very random but im wondering if anyone can shed any light on an address for me in Liverpool. One of my ancestors had stayed there whilst they were a child... Ive searched for it on the 1911 census to see if that could shed more light on if it was a residential address or something else.
The address is The Lodge, Onslow Road, Fairfield, Liverpool. Does anyone know of the area?? They stayed there in 1903
Any ideas?????

You can see Onslow Road, Fairfield, on the Old Maps site at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=337478,391193 but The Lodge is not marked.

its a bit of a mystery. I don't think they lived there. I get the impression they were staying there for some reason. I wondered if it was a hotel or lodging type of building. The address has come from a letter made out to my ancestor from his father who couldn't be with him on his birthday. The letter itself is very strange. I will attempt to upload it on here later. it is written to a child on his 2nd birthday.

I've checked the Gore's directories for 1900, 1911 and 1914 and there are no house names listed for Onslow Road, just numbers.

There is an 1878 newspaper reference to a Thomas Hewitson of "Kent Lodge" Onslow Road. He lived at number 3.

Occupant of number 3 in 1900/1901 was Carl or Karl Geber, a merchant

Thanks for that. Could be a new lead.
