this is how far I have got my grandfather's name is albert James Scott don't know the date of birth but it could be 1893 in Cambridge. he died on26/6/1961 in Kingston surrey he was married before meeting my grandmother Ellen benstead she was born on 7/7/1894 died 15/8/1976 she was albert James Scott common-law wife they had two children Jim Scott and my father Stanley Cecil Scott I can find him but not his brother Jim. I'm not sure which line to follow to get best results. my mum had other names wrote down they are Christopher and Stanley benstead could be Ellen brothers, johnnie Ian, myr, pat, Mary, Brenda I think they all belong to the benstead family any help would be great.

Hi again, the family I showed earlier with parents Christopher & Mary A have an Ellen aged 6 b Newmarket living at Langton Long, Blandford, Dorset in 1901?
Cenus ref RG13/1973/7/5

Also the Arthur James Scott marriage to a Mabel Lilian Benstead in 1908 suggests he was born 1883 Burwell, Cambridgeshire?

But IF catbosco's information is correct her grandfather was Albert James, not Arthur James, and he never married Ellen Benstead. Just to add to the total confusion there's a birth of Albert James Scott in Henstead in Mar 1896. Best to take Lizdb's advice and purchase Stanley Cecil Scott's birth cert,

Hi again, searching for a likely marriage to accommodate some of the births your mother had listed seems to suggest a Christopher Benstead who married an Edith M Bowtle Dec qtr 1921 Epsom 2a 84 I can see births for Benstead/Binstead with mothers maiden name Bowtle of at least 3 of your list above 1922 to 1933?

thank you Keyboard86 I did see that I think the Scott side I will be able to trace back farther but the benstead side is confusing me as its split between Cambridge and Claygate surrey. I need to tie the connection dad said Christopher benstead lived also in Claygate I do remember visit them as a young child in Foley road. but I don't know how to connect the two counties.
