Roman Catholic Hunter family Airdrie Scotland and Newry Co. Down N. Ireland
« on: Saturday 27 December 14 23:38 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for James Hunter abt 1854 and wife Jane McGuigan 1856 married in Newry in 1877. Their children Elizabeth Hunter 1877, Robert Hunter (tubeworker)b. 1882 married Mary Jane Mathews in 1914 Airdrie,  James Hunter (tube worker)b. 1885 married to Jane Closh in 1911 Airdrie and sister Mary Ann Hunter 1892 apparently all settled in Scotland.  Other children remained in Co. Down. Their mother Jane McGuigan probably died between 1892 and 1901.  The only other information I have is the father of James Hunter 1854 is John Hunter,  unknown birth date, wife unknown. I am trying to find any information regarding this family.
Kind regards  :)

Thankyou Aghadowey,
This is my great grandfather Patrick John and his brother, James boarding with McGuigans and then he moved to cork.  I think I have all possible irish information covered including a possible brother to James Senior Patrick Hunter 1861 and Margaret Haughey in Monaghan street.  I am trying to research the other family members who left for Airdrie and perhaps find a mothers name for James Hunter 1854 or perhaps somebody else researching Jane McGuigan daughter of Patrick McGuigan and mother Eliza Barry.  All from Newry.  Thankyou very much for your quick response. Wow,   It took me ages to gather that information.
Kind Regards

Hi Chris, thanks for that,  I haven't done a lot of research yet on the Scottish side but I don't think they are descendants.  I have a marriage cert for St Margaret's registered in St. Andrews if I am reading it properly.  The addresses I have of my ancestors are Hallcraig and a census from  3 St. Margaret street Airdrie.  Is St. Joseph's near these streets?  Anyway thanks for the info,
Kind regards

St Joseph's was the burial ground initially set up by St Margaret's, with the help of the Gerard family.  Many people interred at St Josephs stayed in Hallcraig Street.

Thanks Chris, I don't think  the names match with any of my birth dates but they could be descendants.  I found out that I have living relatives in East Kilbride Glasgow through my ancestry but they don't know I exist so perhaps somewhere along the line they uprooted from Airdrie to East Kilbride.  I will check out the Roman Catholic Churches there.  Thanks ever so much for your help and at least I have ruled out one church!!

Hi Airdrie Hunter was very happy to Find your post as by mother was Josephine Hunter born in Airdrie but raised in Belfast and eventually moved to Australia , My Grandmother was Jane Hunter who was born and died in Airdrie , long story but by mother was raised by cousins to the Hunter Family in Larne and Belfast the o'Lynn family , but I remember my mother speaking about how the family was originally from Newry and also mentioning the closh family , I am new to this so not sure if I can view a full family tree of sorts .
