Do you think it could be a train at a station that does not have a raised platform? (where you stand on the same level as the tracks) Or maybe the photo was taken elsewhere in the station.

That logo looks exactly like the one posted by Sami ... unless CN have buses too, though that still doesn't look like a bus despite fandes saying it is.  :-\

You would normally expect a platform to be at about that couple's waist level, and you wouldn't see those 'underparts' when on the platform.

I agree its a train. Look at the womens elbow. Just next/below looks to be a suspension leg. Or stabiliser.

Apparently CN has, or had, buses. I had no idea. Still think its a train though.

Hi Kevin:

Have you shown the complete photo?

Just a thought, but I'm wondering if there could be any other clues in the photo.

sami

A few years ago, I was given a copy of a photograph that was taken c1902 that had three generations from my father's side.  I knew that it was taken in Ontario, Canada, but I didn't know who the people were in the photo (there were about 15 people).  Using a magnifying glass, I found my grandfather (he had a distinguishing mark on his face) and noticed that one lady had a maple leaf pin.  Two of the women looked very similar to each other and with other clues in the photo, I determined that they were sisters.  I never would have noticed these things without scrutinizing the photo.

Could you date the photo by research eyeglass styles?  Of course, the lady could have worn them for years, but at least you might know an approximate decade?  Also, I wonder if the purse might be from a certain decade, and possibly be made from alligator?  (Note:  I don't know anything about purse styles and am only guessing.)   ;)

In California, the tie style that the man has is a "bolo tie".  According to one online site, bolo ties were in fashion during the 1950s.  Is there a pattern on the man's tie, right by the neckline?  Would that have a clue perhaps?

Well...looking at the glasses and the purse, I don't see much that disagrees with a 1970s-ish date...I can see all of this stuff on my mother in the 70s  :)

One thing that should be mentioned is that once a man finds a ''style'' he will usually stick with it for life.  ;D :-[

Yes the Bolo Tie may be 50s but I bet he thought it was cool then and its even cooler in the 70s. I would concentrate on the womans styling.  :)

Plus, in the states, bolo ties can be regional.

I wonder if the couple had just disembarked, as the gentleman's slacks are fairly creased, like he had been sitting a long time.  Or, perhaps just sitting in a car a long time?

Hi Everyone,

The entire original photo is attached.  I'm sure those who replied and said it is a train are correct. Well done!

Thanks,
Kevin
