According to his baptism record, John DANIELS was born 3 Dec 1815 and baptised on 24 Dec 1815 at Edmonton, Middx. His father was William DANIELS, a labourer of Winchmore Hill. His mother was Rebecca DANIELS (née HOBBS).
There is a marriage recorded in 1840 between John DANIELS and Elizabeth GRANT (Q2 1840 Edmonton 3 60). The couple then disappear from the record until 1861.
In 1861 John DANIELS (labourer, 45, b Hackney, Middx) and his wife Gertrude DANIELS (40, b Germany) are living at Abbot Street, Hackney. They have 4 children: Mary (11, b Germany), Elizabeth (5, b Hackney), Sarah (2, b Hackney) and G William (0, b Hackney).
In 1871 John DANIEL (army pensioner, artillery, 56, b Edmonton, Middx) and his wife Elizabeth DANIEL (50, b Germany) are living at Cottage Place Woods Yard, Hackney with their son George (10, b Hackney).
In 1881 John DANIELS (labourer, 66, b Edmonton, Middx) and his wife Elizabeth (61, b Germany) are living at Evelyn Cottages, Hackney.

In 1901 John DANIELS (living on own means, 86, b Tottenham, Middx) and his wife Elizabeth (81, b Hackney, Middx) are living at Margaret Street, Hackney.
There is a death recorded for John DANIELS in 1902 (Q4 1902 Hackney 1b 373).
Assuming that despite some variations, all the census reports refer to the same couple, I would like to find out where they were in 1841 and 1851. Moreover, is Gertrude of 1861 the Elizabeth recorded in later years. And is this the Elizabeth of the 1840 wedding?
It would appear that the couple were in Germany for a period, as their daughter Mary was born in Germany in c1850. Would this birth have coincided with military service?
Any help with clarification, gratefully accepted.
