Hi magicnanny

Are you looking for a grave with a headstone? are you sure a headstone exits? how long ago was the burial?

Not all churchyards have been surveyed either by the parish or local family history society so there may not be any notes of who you are looking for and where they are buried.

My greatgrandparents are buried in a churchyard in Berkshire, no headstone and we only know (approximately) where they are because of a dip beween graves either side of theirs.

The Great Yarmouth cemetery registers, that is of the actual burial plot are at the Norfolk Record Office on fich.  They cover the new cemetery in Yarmouth & the one in Gorleston, those are the municipal ones.

There's a transcription on headstones in Yarmouth library, not sure if it cover 1887, though.  Have you tried Find A Grave, or there are several other sites that might have an entry for him.

I see he's in the parish burials register, but he could have been buried in any of the ones I've mentioned.  A lot of tombstones have gone from the churchyard this century. I have searched for my G-grandfathers grave and I have the plot number, I could find no headstone ???

After 2 years of searching the cemetery in Gt Yarmouth I have at last located the final resting place of my gt grand uncle Harry and his son James, with the help of several relatives and the Cemetery Records Officer. Parts of the cemetery are very overgrown and any shrubs etc have to remain unless there is a specific request from relatives to have them cut back. There was no headstone for either but the position was found from the records and markers put in prior to my visit. The Record's Officer met me and showed me the position of the graves. Harry was buried in the position of one of the marker peg which the team had put in and his infant son John was buried next to him. There is no way I would have found them. Well worth the small fee. Another gt grand aunt is also buried there. Workers from the cemetery had had to cut away and clear a huge bush which completely covered the grave. Even then the part with her name had to be uncovered as it was below soil level. Good hunting. I would recommend getting in touch with the Cemetery Records Officer to see if the name is on the register.

I went in person to Great Yarmouth Town Hall , very helpful & found my grandmother buried in St Nicholas grave yard ( Kitchener rd one ) umarked grave . 1899
I do know they had books with everyone buried as a lady went through them to find a burial at Caister for me as well . I did not have to pay they were so helpful . They do not allow public to look through . Shame not transcribed & placed in Yarmouth library .

Do you have a parish church or chapel record of the burial, so you know you're looking in the right burial area?
