Hello Nooshie W
Sorry I know this thread was a couple of years ago now.
I was wondering if you or your friend had any further success with this family history research?
I have recently started researching Cairns family tree.
-the elder Miles Cairns was my GG Grandfather
He raised my grandmother, and they lived at the Cemetery Keeper's lodge in East Gateshead Cemetery.
-the younger Miles Cairns who was your friend's father, was a cousin of my Grandmother.
I have sent off to Scotland's People for a marriage cert for Edward Cairns / Honora Gilhooly (Ann/ie Cairns) but if researching the Irish roots of these people is fruitless then I may not be able to pursue it.
Many thanks for any help!
Angela J

Thanks, that explains the names, both boys very similar though 'Joannis' and 'Joannes'.
I'm a bit late to the party, but Joannes is the nominative case of the Latin version of John, and Joannis is the genitive, which means of John or John's . You also see Joannem which is the accusative case of the Latin. So it's all the same name and almost certainly the same person.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
