Catherine Matchett, Census 1971 Lookup in Co. Armagh
« on: Saturday 01 April 17 17:55 BST (UK) »
An ancestor Catherine Matchett b) 1865 married John Lausdale/Lonsdale in ca 1882.  She was 35 years old in Census 1901 living at 5 Sherbrook St., Belfast and in 1911 she was 46 years old and living at 37 Sherbrook St., Court Ward, Co. Antrim.

There is a Richard Matchett b) 1863 living  at 9 Sherbrook St. in 1901 and in 1911 living at 3 Sherbrook St. Richard married a Caroline (Morris) Matchett. Richard and Caroline had a son also named Richard on Oct. 5, 1900 and Catherine was in attendance at the birth and her address was 5 Sherbrook St.  I do believe that Richard is a sister to Catherine Matchett and their birthdates  being in 1863 and 1865.

In the 1911 Census Richard Matchett (the father) was born in Co. Armagh. My guess is that Catherine was also born in Co. Armagh although in 1901 Catherine's birthplace was not listed and in 1911 it is marked as (ditto) Co. Antrim.  Would we be able to find the parents of Richard and Catherine in Co. Armagh.  I would appreciate finding out if indeed Catherine was born in Co. Armagh? ??? :-\ ;)

In 1911 Lonsdales are living at #22 Sherbrook St.-

1901 census says John born England and Catherine born Belfast-

Civil registration of births started in 1864 so for earlier dates you need to look to see if church records survive.

Catherine Matchett married 1881 Belfast to John Lonsdale- her father's name Moses. Eventually the record will be on Irish Genealogy site.

Using Moses as father's name there is also-

HI Murielle,
I wondered did you get any further with your research?
I believe I have the same Moses Matchett (Catherine's father?)in my family tree. He would be my GGG Grandfather.
Quite a distinctive name!! I have managed to trace back as far as him but no further yet.
Moses' son William married an Elizabeth Martin and they had a child called Agnes. Agnes then married a William Hagans. I am still in touch with, but not close to, 2 of their remaining 3 children, my great aunt and uncle, who are currently in a nursing home in Belfast. Unfortunately they cannot provide much in the way of family records but I would love to know more. They did not marry so there is no-one else that I know of in the family.
M

Thanks Aghadowey,
You have given some really good info. I was just looking at those grave details myself before I saw your posts and that is definitely my relatives in there.
Also the William Matchett and Elizabeth Martin are important as I am related to both. My maiden name is Martin.
