Condran/Conran Families
« on: Wednesday 19 April 17 06:29 BST (UK) »
Hi there, My great-grandfather Condran, came to Australia as a Convict. His name was Michael Conran, on his Convict papers.  His father was Patrick Conran. So I'm not sure of their original surname. Would it be Condran or Conran?

Hello Robynkc and welcome to rootschat!

No Conran/Condran that I can see transported, however there is a Michael CONRYN born 1802 transported for 10 years from Ireland in 1844. Is this your relative? More info here:

and convict record here

Thank you for your replies. Michael Conran was tried in County Westmeath on 12 July 1832 and deported to Australia on the "Royal Admiral"(2) we have documents to verify that. Born abt 1811 in Athlone, County Westmeath. His parents on his Australian Death Certificate are Patrick Condran and Julia O'Connell. I found Birth Registration of a Patrick Conran in Ancestry, he was born 3 Feb 1782 in Mullingar, Westmeath, Ireland and died 1859 in Athalone, Ireland.  I found a Julia O'Connell born in 1792 in Ireland and died in 1877 in Tipperary, Ireland. I do not know if the Patrick Conran and Julia   O'Connell are our family members.
Thank you. Robyn Condran

Hi,
Found the transportation record, says he was convicted of cow stealing and sentenced to 7 years, his age was 23 which makes him born c1809. Did he go back to Ireland? There's a death that fits in 1893. Shillelagh, Carlow. Ireland.

Michael Condran married and had 11 children. He remained in Australia, where he died.
