1939 Electoral Role look up

I'm on the look out for an address where a local WW2 casualty lived before the war. Stanley Harold Shilcock married a Joan Mildred Willsdon in 1939 and I believe they lived at 6 Salmondsbury Cottages Bourton on the Water but would appreciate it if someone could confirm that. Stanley was with the 4th Bn Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry when he was killed on the 30th May 1940.

The "1939" ROLL contains data outside(after) 1939.

Like all rolls, on the initial day of reckoning,
if the person is there then they are recorded.
If they are not there, then their name does not appear.
Changes of name of those recorded are noted.

Why not get a short-term sign-up to FindMyPast(1939)?

They married in the Dec quarter of 1939, so probably won't appear together in the 1939 Register on Find My Past which was taken at end of September.

If you are looking for them in the electoral roles, they probably wouldn't appear together until 1940, and if he was already in the army, he may not be listed.

Thanks all. I have found Joan with her married name on the 1939 register as I have access to FindMyPast, I couldn't see Stanley listed at the address but she is listed as a widow which all backs up Ray's comment - I'd always wrongly assumed it was like a census.

Ideally I'd have like to find Stanleys pre-war Occupation and DoB, the latter I can get by ordering a copy of his birth certificate. The former may be on his army record, I've yet to order any of these and therefore don't know what they tell a none relative.

It seems odd to me that she is down as a widow on there as it was taken in September 1939, before she even married Stanley. Was it a second marriage for her?

As he was only "22" when he died then he may not have had ( the chance of ) an "occupation" as we know it.
Other than that was recorded on the marriage cert. (poss "Private"?)

They didn't seem to have had any children?
