hallmark and sinan, thanks for the feedback. I do have the marriage agreement (1809) for Jeffrey Keating (son of James) and Johanna Kirby. James was first leased the land at Knocknagranshy in 1789, eventually retiring to Limerick City and leaving son Jeffrey to farm there.

Jeffrey and Johanna's first child was also Jeffrey Keating (born 1808), who granduated as an apothecary in Dublin in 1833. He became a doctor, first in Melbourne in 1841 and then in NSW where he died in 1876.

It's this Jeffrey (jnr) I think could be referred to Dr Keating referred to in GV for Parkaree, which is only 800m from Knocknagranshy.

I hadn't noticed Col Newingham (also Newenham)'s name at the top of the page - thanks for pointing that out and also the land case. The newspaper articles make interesting - basically Jeffrey Keating snr was caught up because of his lease from Newenham.

Yes, it COULD be him.... but is it?? He could be a first cousin with same name!

What is on the Page for Parkaree?

I only looked at Knocknagranshy....

Jeffrey (jnr) you still only think could be referred to as Dr Keating, referred to in GV for Parkaree...

Is the other Keating that Jeffrey is leasing to in Knocknagranshy a relative??

Parkaree GV
Occupier Immediate Lessor
John Hinchy William Monsell Esq
Murtagh Flaherty William Monsell Esq
Margaret Dwyer  William Monsell Esq
Edmund Molony   Reps Dr Keating

Dr Keating also a lessor at the neighbouring townland:

Spring Lodge
Thomas Molony   William Monsell Esq and Reps Dr Keating
Thaddeus Molony Thomas Molony
William Ryan Thomas Molony

The other Keating at Knocknagranshy is Edmund, Jeffrey Keating snr's brother.

Yes Dr Keating could be a cousin - it was the fact that he was a Dr and not occupying the land that suggested  the one in Australia . I always wondered why as the eldest son he chose to become a apothecary and not follow in his father's footsteps as a farmer.

It's understandable as he didn't own land!  Why stay?

Maybe father and son had a falling out. The land went to his sister Ellen after Jeffrey snr died in 1870.

I don't know when the land was actually bought. Ellen lived there until her death in 1895. By 1901 Edmund's granddaughter Annie Lane and family were living in the main house and his grandson in another house on the farm. The Lanes continued to live there until 2014, then it was rented for several years before being sold to Qatar Racing in 2018.
