William Henry Sommers or Summers
« on: Monday 12 August 19 04:49 BST (UK) »
William Henry Sommers/ Summers was born to William Summers and his wife Martha nee Brouster on the 25th Oct 1804. He was baptised in St Andrews church in Quebec City 14th Feb 1805. This is all I know about William the son and would like to trace what happened after this period, his life and possible descendents. The only other reference to William the son is a court document from Poole UK, dated 22nd June 1825, in which Grandmother Mary Summers is given guardianship of William and his three siblings, the latter all born in Poole 1815 through 1820.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I have hit a brick wall on this

Do these 3 siblings each have a name and year/ date of birth?
What are they?
Where do the siblings end up?

The three siblings were all born in Poole, Dorset. UK and all three baptised in that town. In order then, Martha Summers (19 Mar 1815 - 1876), Robert Ash Summers (17 Nov 1818 - July 1894'ish) and Mary Brouster/ Brewster/ Brobster Summers (23 July 1820 - ?) Martha died in UK, Robert more than likely UK and Mary is not known. Martha the Mother died in Poole 1822 and William the father was declared lost at sea during a bad storm UK south Coast Nov 1824. Hope that helps

IF (big IF) that Robert Summers is yours, the following may be of interest ( from Find A Will):-

Robert Summers, 39 Lonsdale Square, Islington and Chancery Lane, solicitor, died 14 Sept 1894 at Lonsdale Square.
Probate granted to Amelia Summers, widow, Robert Sutcliffe Summers, solicitor, and Amelia Jane Summers, spinster.

From Free BMD, it looks as if Robert Summers and Amelia Dye married May-June 1851 Islington.

The death of a William Henry Summers, age 35, was registered in West Derby (Liverpool area) in Oct-Dec 1839.

The National Archives ( T N A Discovery) has the will of William Henry Summers, Master Mariner of Poole, Dorset. Probate dated  6 February 1840. Available for down load.

Could be entirely coincidental - but also a possibility. Death has to be registered in area in which it occured.

The baptism record Presbyterian Saint Andrew´s Church Quebec for William Henry Sommers states his father was a mariner (father was not present)

On a previous thread you initiated it is stated that the will of WHS, Master Mariner, Poole, mentions children Janet  Mary and Howard John.

Again, I am speculating.
A John Howard Summers was born Apl-Jun1839, St George in the East, Middx. Mmn Tweddie. He died in Liverpool, aged 2, in 1841. (GRO Index)
Marriage 18 May 1834. St Peter's, Liverpool. William Henry Summers, mariner, and Anniple Tweedie.Sorry, cannot give you the link. Just Google.

From Family Search.
Baptism 8 Sept 1836. Janet Mary Summers. St Mary, Newington, Surrey. Parents William Henry and Aniple.

PS That should read born 8 Sept 1836. Baptised  12 March 1837
