I am interested in McConachy family. Killean is the most likely place, but possibly Campbeltown.
Can anyone help please?

If you look on  https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk you will find baptisms of McConachy’s at Killean in the 1790s but not Campbeltown.. What do you want to know?

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

I have an Archibald McConachy age '50' in 1841 census, living at Tayachroman, Killean. Wife Marion McLauchlan. Unfortunately, there are rather a lot of Archibald's to choose from born around that time. I would be interested to know who lived at Tayachroman in the Duke of Argyll census, or if there was a child Archibald in Killean at that time.

There is an Archibald McConachy, age 6, recorded at Largymore, Parish of Kilchenzie. Father appears to be Alexander McCunachy, aged 40; mother Cathrin Bouie, aged 38; brother Dugald McConachy, aged 9.

Thank you for this information. I must look at a map, but that does sound like a real possibility.
Is Tayachroman listed, please and if so, who lives there?

Archibald was a shoemaker and married Marion McLauchlan.

I am very grateful indeed for you help.

Taychroman is not listed in Duke of Argyll's 1792 Census. I looked at a map dated 1777 and Taychroman was listed as being owned by Farquharson Esq., not the Duke of Argyll. This 1777 map can be viewed on the Scotland's People website, if you are interested, and is very helpful in identifying where various places are and who owned them.

If I can be of further help, please ask and I will see what other information I have.

That is a useful map, but so far I have not located Largymore.

From horse tax, I see that there was an Alexander MacC at Achalershin and an Archibald at Drumnamchlan (?my spelling).

On Kintyre forum someone has got quite a way back with MacConachy, but so far we have not been able to find a link.

Am I right in thinking that Archibald's mother was probably Bowie, or could it have been Blue?

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

My reference to the map was in connection to Taychroman. However, Largiemore, or Largymore, is on the 3rd map of 1777 but recorded as "Ballinlergymore". The prefix "baile'" means township, I believe. As for the surname of Archibald's mother - I couldn't say whether it was Bowie or Blue. There is an OPR birth record on Scotlands People for Archibald McConachy born 19 Sep 1784, baptised 24 Sep 1784, Campbeltown - parents as indicated in my previous message.
