Deserted from Royal Navy ship 1904

My great uncle William Thomas Beckett Hensher deserted from the RN ship Crescent at Simons Town 26th June 1904. He would have been 18 and was never heard from again. His father had died 1903 at Assinie, Gold Coast and his stepmother in London had 3 daughters as well as William and 4 younger brothers! Would he have been searched for? It was said he may have changed his name and he did have Beckett relatives in Cape Town, grandparents and great uncles. Any chance of finding him do you think? No real paper trails as now! Mina died from a heart attack following an operation.
She had been known in the community for her musical ability and was a important figure in all organizations in rendering both vocal and instrumental selections. She was a member of the Monroe orchestra for years.
Married to Thomas William Hensher of Beatty, Nev., September 16, 1934.
Siblings: Fred, William and Thelma Bell, Elsinore; Claude Bell, Callente, Nev.; Mrs. John Christofferson, Ashton, and Mrs. June Webb. Provo.
