Marriage Licence 1683

Does anyone have access to the marriage licence for Joan Hernshaw widow of South Wingfield and George Bowler, Chesterfield 5/6/1689 please.  (I think Joan was Joan Fowkes, widow of Thomas Earnshaw bur 1683 Eckington).

Derbyshire came under the Lichfield diocese, so all these records should now be at Stafford Record Office.
They are on findmypast. I don't have a sub, but if nobody comes back to you on here, you could see if your local library has access to findmypast.
You could also try familysearch. If I remember right, they have Derbyshire licences filmed, and viewable without having to go to an LDS centre - you just need to register (free).

The Licence just gives their names and states that Joan is a widow. It does not say who her previous husband was, nor does it give her maiden name.

It also says that he was aged about 36 and from North Wingfield, but does not give her age. So not much help I'm afraid.

Curious and curiouser, 36 and from NW certainly seems to confirm Joan was originally Joan Fowkes.  I would dearly love to know who her parents were....

Have you looked for the death of a somebody 'Hernshaw' in the area a few years before this marriage?
(I think I'd also look for Henshaw, and other variations of name - I see you have also thought of 'Earnshaw').
Did Thomas Earnshaw leave a will? Or other wills for Hernshaw around that time. They may mention a wife, sister in law etc,  named Joan.

Great thinking outside the box goldie61 thank you.  I would love to know what the will says if anyone on here can help.  If that fails I will have to consider forking out for it!

The link given by goldie61 has another link to FindMyPast. All there is on FindMyPast is the Calendar of Wills and Admon which reads "1687 September 20th Hernshaw Thomas Southwingfield."

If a Will does exist you may have to order it from the link goldie61 gave.
