Mcleod/Mcleans Lochbroom
« on: Sunday 12 April 20 13:27 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am really struggling with my friends family tree.  Margaret Mcleod married a Robert Burnett Watson.
Margaret born 1860:
Name Margaret Mc Leod Gender Female Birth Date21 Jun 1860 Birth Place Lochbroom,Ross and Cromarty,Scotland Father Angus Mc LeodMotherAnabella Mc Lean FHL Film Number6035516 .

I think she had siblings: Catherine Mcleod b1854, Kenneth Mcleod 1855, Murdo Mcleod, 1858, Simon Mcleod 1862, Norman Mcleod 1856, Alexander Mcleod 1869.

I cannot find the mothers death, Annabella Mcleod she was  in the 1871 census but not 1881.
I cannot find a marriage for Angus and Annabella first son born 1855 so guessing around this time.

Also my friend says that the family came from Isle of Lewis but I cannot find anything that suggests that at all.
I think if I could find the marriage for Angus and Annabella maybe it would come together.

any suggestion please.

I have been looking of Scotlands People but do not find it easy to locate people as you have to pay just to look at the file and a couple of times I have paid and got the wrong person!  Or am I doing that wrong too.  ::) :-\

Thanks Sue

If you have seen the birth of Margaret in 1860 it should tell you when and where the parents married.

No it is just on ancestry no more info.  I cannot find it on Scotlands people either.

She is on Scotlands People in 1860 registration district Coigach. Unfortunately it does not say when or where her parents married. Her parents married in1852, SP has them in the old records.

Annabella died 1872 also registered Coigach.

A tip for searching SP for female deaths is that they are registered twice, once as the maiden name and once as the married name.

What was the address in Coigach?

I have many of the census records and some bmds for Achiltibuie from when I did a study of the area. 15 or so years ago.

Added - I think they just might be relatives of old friends of ours, going by the names. The place is full of Mcleods though.

When Margaret was born it says Achduart, Coigach. I thought I knew Scotland pretty well but I have never heard of those two before. They seem sort of Gaelic to me.

Good grief - that's where I lived for a good while. It's only a few houses - even less in those days.
