Hi Ladyhawk,
Thanks for that information. Years ago I searched Scotland’s People and never found a marriage for Andrew Flynn—no matter how I spelled the surname!
Do you know how I could get a copy of the marriage certificate?
Thanks again!
Bridget

You would need credits for Scotland’s People - from SP

You can search our indexes free of charge and use pay-per-view to view and download digital images of the records you find. The indexes cover birth, death and marriage registers, census returns, church registers, valuation rolls and legal records (like wills and testaments and coats of arms).

Credits cost £0.25 each and are available in batches of 30 (£7.50) or 40 (£10) from the buy credits page.

The number of credits and costs of digital images for the different record types are as follows:.........

I did a bit of research and realized that I’d already found the Andrew Flynn who married Sarah Carroll. He was a Tailor (Journeyman). Sarah died in 1871 in Calton.

Hi wivenhoe,
I know it’s my family in all 3 censuses, but I’m not sure if or how Andrew Flynn is related to Thomas Taylor, though that’s something I’ll definitely start looking into. I think it’s time to renew my Ancestry subscription!
Thank you for pointing my in the right direction!

Was he married to Sarah?

1881c
13, Rockbrook Street, Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England
Andrew   Flynn   Head   Married   1842   Earthenware Dealer   Liverpool, Lancashire
Sarah   Flynn   Wife   Married   1851   -   Scotland

Is this the death of his wife Sarah?

1884   Flynn   Sarah   age 34   Liverpool   8b   115

Do you think any of the children could have been named after her father?

1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census
3, Gadsby Street Eves Terrace, Everton, West Derby, Lancashire
Andrew   Flynn   Head   Married   1844   Dealer In Earthenware Liverpool, Lancashire
Alice A   Flynn    Wife   Married   1864   -   Liverpool, Lancashire
Andrew   Flynn   Son   1889 Bootle, Lancashire
Joseph   Flynn   Son   1891 Liverpool, Lancashire
Patrick   Flynn   Son   1893   Liverpool, Lancashire
John   Flynn           Son   1897 Liverpool, Lancashire

1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census
Haigh Street, Everton, West Derby, Lancashire
Andrew   Flynn   Head   Married   1844   Earthenware Dealer   Liverpool, Lancashire
Alice   Flynn   Wife   Married            1864 Liverpool, Lancashire
Andrew   Flynn   Son 1889   Bootle, Lancashire
Joseph   Flynn   Son 1891   Liverpool, Lancashire

If that is Andrew Flynn’s first wife Sarah’s death in 1884 and Andrew & Alice’s first child
Andrew was born 1889 - Would have thought their marriage should have been between 1884 - 1889 but like you not found anything

My grandfather, Patrick Flynn, was born 23 August 1892 in Liverpool.
On his birth certificate his father is Andrew Flynn, his mother Alice Ann née Taylor.

I’ve been unable to find a marriage between Andrew and Alice Ann, though I’ve searched a number of sites, and even searched just using first names.

I’m beginning to think the couple never married.

Without a marriage, how can I find out Alice Ann’s father’s name?

According to the censuses (1891 and 1901) she was born about 1864 in Liverpool.

This is the only birth I can see on GRO indexes registered  Liverpool

Alice Ann TAYLOR   mmn RYDER
1864  M Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 08B  Page 159

A few Taylor/Ryder marriage possibilities on Lancashire BMD between 1849 - 1864

as an example if she was named after her mother

TAYLOR   Thomas   RYDER   Alice   1856   Manchester Cathedral (formerly Manchester Collegiate Church)

You would need her b/c to confirm parents names

Edited to add just in case it might be relevant for your Alice A Taylor

1871 c Cleveland Square, Liverpool, Lancashire
Thomas   Taylor   Head   1825   Manchester Lancashire occ Brush & Basket dealer
Alice   Taylor   Wife   1825   Manchester Lancashire
Thomas   Taylor   Son           1861 Liverpool Lancashire
Alice A   Taylor   Daughter   1865   Liverpool   Lancashire
John   Taylor           Son           1867   Liverpool   Lancashire
