Looking for the family of James Gurney born 1880 in Camden Town Middlesex. In 1881 he was aged 1 living with his parents Peter Gurney and Ann in Luton with the rest of his siblings for some reason he was born in Camden but the older siblings born in Luton. Would like to find a marriage for him also if he had any children.and did he serve in ww1?. Thankyou for any help.

Yes he signed up in Sept 1914, and was in the Bedfordshire Regiment (place of birth given as Kentish Town). Discharged permanently unfit in 1916. His records are rather badly damaged

Married Emily Evelyn Louisa  Louise Tomkins in 1912 in Dunstable. There was one child at the time he signed up

James Albert Gurney is at 29 Althorp Road, Luton from 1915 to 1924
In the later years also at that address is Evelyn Gurney
** this address is mentioned on his Army Papers

This is confirmed in the 1917 Luton Year Book & Directory. Althorp Road is not listed in 1911 Directory so guess it was not built yet, there are a few Gurney names listed but not James

As mentioned before...
Emily Evelyn Gurney is at 1 or 31 (it varies?) Market Square, Leighton Buzzard from 1929 to 1933 & then from 1945 to 1948 - James is not with her although they both seem to die in Mar qtr 1949 in Luton RD

In 1939 she is at 31 Market Square Leighton Buzzard, date of birth 2 Feb 1891 & married.

In 1939 there is a James A Gurney at 233 High Street North Dunstable, date of birth 4 Aug 1879, a journeyman carpenter, but he says he's a widower?
And he was at that address between 1936 & 1948 as per Electoral Registers.
