« on: Tuesday 30 March 21 16:38 BST (UK) »
Looking for advice on how to see the image for the marriage of George Harrison and Lydia Buxton 1852 Nottingham. Keen to know if the groom was a widower and also his parents' details.

Thanks in advance,
Flemming.

You may have to purchase the certificate - nothing on Ancestry, FindMyPast, Family Search or FreeReg.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Marriages appears to have taken place at St Mary, Nottingham.

Yes, I've tried all the usual sources. Notts is typically a bit sparse for images and full transcriptions. The local FHS has indexed marriages for St Mary's but I can't see anywhere on their website how you can access the records themselves, and I'm going round in circles on the Notts Archives website.

Perhaps contact with the FHS - they may be willing to help you.  Or maybe try the Archives.  :-\ :-\

Can it be assumed, You have not located George Harrison on the 1851 Census, in order to establish His married/widower or single status ?
Kirkham, Garlick, Worthington, Shaw, Bamber. Fylde Coast
Naylor/Nailor, Lyons, Wilkinson. Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire

Good question. I have a theory that he's in Derby in 1841 with wife Ellen (nee Boddy or Hoddy), and then in Manchester in 1851 with sister Ann (married to Henry Walker). The 1851 image looks like someone has thrown Tizer over it, but you can still see this family group at the bottom of the page with George's marital status helpfully left blank. If he'd have married Lydia in Derbyshire (where they both lived), the image would be available. The fact they tied the knot in Nottingham makes me a little suspicious of their motives.

Also in 1841 in Derby, very close to George and Ellen Harrison, is Lydia Buxton. She's with her widowed father Rowland Buxton in 1851 in Lea Bridge, also with her illegimate daughter Martha Ann born 1850.

However, the age for George Harrison in 1841 is 25, which is six years too young. He married Ellen Boddy/Hoddy in 1840 Derby (no image) and had several children with her. I need to dig into this, obviously, but the marriage entry to Lydia Buxton may have been a quicker option.

Edit: four children bp to George and Ellen - Ellen 1837 (possible dr 1841), Catherine 1838 (possible dr 1843), James 1840 (possible dr 1840), Mary 1841 (possible dr 1843). All four children may have died, but what happened to mother Ellen?

1851 census for George & Ellen

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGDD-TBM

1871 with Ellen
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VBXC-1LW

baptism for daughter Mary from 1851 census
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QL75-H5DQ

Adult ages in 1841 were rounded down to nearest 5, so enumerated as 25 could mean 25 - 29.

Wonderful, many thanks. I wonder why Ellen went from being born in Ireland to being born in Long Eaton  ???
