Fordes' from Buittle, Kirkcudbright
« on: Monday 23 August 21 12:03 BST (UK) »
I have a few people on my family tree that have the location of their birth listed as Buittle, Kirkcudbright. Does Buittle still exist? I tried to locate it using google maps. Kirkcudbright comes up of course, but not Buittle.

I am searching for a Forde family with William Forde (Father) and daughter Sarah Jane Forde. All I have for William is a death record which I believe the spelling was wrong, Belleck, County Armagh, Northern Ireland 27 July 1881.
Sarah Jane b 1837 - 1899 married to John McKnight and had about 7 children, the first 3 were born in Kirkcudbright and the rest were born in Northern Ireland.

Its a Parish so no to Google Maps.  The Parish can be found https://maps.nls.uk/view/74400123 to the right and below Castle Douglas.

That answers my question about Buittle, thanks Don.

I just hope someone can help me find something on William, as I am having no luck searching for him in Scotland records  :(

The children of Sarah and John.  What are the given names of their children born in Scotland.

Many of the earlier statutory births also have the date and sometimes place of the parents marriage.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I don't tend to trust online trees unless I've fully verified the facts but I've  found, but not verified,
a few online  trees that have Sarah and John marrying  on 5 Dec 1861, in Balleek*, Co.  Armagh

Sarah is given as born  Buittle circa 1837 and John as born Balleek* circa 1839

A  poor law application in Cambusnethan by daughter Sophia in 1909 has John as a schoolmaster and farmer.

Only info for William is what you have.

* assume that this is Balleek
