James Cotter, 1861 and 1871
« on: Sunday 07 November 21 08:32 GMT (UK) »
James Cotter was born in Norwich c.1852 (though I can't find a birth record).  He was in Hull by 1878, marrying Rebecca Speed, and I can trace him there from 1881 onwards, but I can't locate him on the earlier censuses.  Help would be appreciated.

Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.

Don't know why but ancestry links him to a James Banham born Norwich age 8 in 1861

Can we rule him out just in case?

Well Sarah Banham age 9 links to Sarah Cotter in 1891 mother Sarah Banham so there is a link between those surnames somehow.

1891

Sarah Banham 60 head widow
Sarah Cotter 35 daughter single

Now to work that one out!

Thomas James Banham Mar 1853 Norwich has mothers name Howard and there is a

Hannah Banham ** Sep 1859 Mitford with mothers name Howard but what about Sarah who turns into a Cotter  :-\

** more likely this one given her age in 1861

Hannah Banham Sep 1860 Norwich mothers name Wilby

Different mothers perhaps for the younger and older children?
