Sorry you've got the hump Viktoria - but it feels sanctimonious to me - to keep being told that people are taking certain actions, when none of them are required.  Fine, not stopping anyone doing it but no need to keep banging on about it I feel. (I am well aware that I am banging my head against a brick wall here).

I will not aid the spread but I don't feel unnecessary mask wearing limits it either.  Are those of you who carry on with such unrequired precautionary measures not scoffing at the government's & scientists abilities to determine what measures are necessary at certain points in time.  I bet you are all quick enough to assume masks and other measures when the government dictates so why not relinquish such measures also when the government suggests it?

I am not advocating anything dangerous or deliberate to spread the virus, and will be ultra cautious when required.

If Pheno finds people sanctimonious for stating that they have continued wearing masks, I suggest she stops reading posts relating to Covid.

The wearing of masks is eminently sensible, especially as  Omicron variant  has now been found in the UK.

Why should I stop reading if people won't stop writing about it? I am suggesting that people stop writing about it not stop doing it.

I will be wearing a mask as required next week

I will continue to wear a mask as that it my choice, everyone has their own take on it. Good luck to the anti-mask brigade, they also have a right to make their own decisions. Until the situation where we can all be confident that it is safe not to, I will continue to wear a mask.

I really don't think anybody has understood my point - never once said anyone should stop doing it - just stop going on about it.

I hold with the precautionary principle:  When an activity raises threats of harm to human health or the environment, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically.

Living in Scotland we are still required to wear a mask in shops, public transport and various other indoor settings. It is not a matter of choice but the law. Whilst I don't find mask wearing all that comfortable I would continue to do so even if it was not Mandatory and that would then be my personal choice to help protect others as well as myself. Double + booster jags nonetheless.

That's the difficulty, Dorrie.
In England it has been confusing for quite a while.
KGarrard’s link for IoM mentions health care settings.
Here (England) that is still, I think, mandatory. PM Johnson, however, did not wear one for some time on a hospital visit and various explanations were offered.
There are several examples where our leaders have not lead by example with words such as ‘advisable’ being used rather than compulsory.
As mask wearing can be uncomfortable, I suppose the option not to do so was/is chosen.
I wonder too how many single use masks are re-used and how many cloth masks are washed or replaced as advised.
If not, does that diminish their effectiveness?

What I cannot understand is why is it that we can sit in a large cafe for a coffee and sandwich for half an hour, everyone chatting away maskless , staff clearing tables, people hanging coats on the back of chairs etc etc, then as soon as we emerge into the clothes dept. we have to wear a mask lest we should infect a casual passer by.   It’s not logical, our government wants to be seen to do something, so they take the easy way out.
