Hi
Would anyone know where to find, or how to access, a copy of the PR's for Staindrop, Durham burial records PRE 1760.
I see Freereg has some transcripts but nothing earlier than abt 1760.
Suggestions would be very much appreciated
Thanks
Di

The PRs are held at Durham County Record Office.
Online records with both familysearch and Durham Records Online only start at 1765

Thanks emeltom
Sounds like I'll have to email them - Do you know if the PR's at Durham RO actually include pre 1765 records?
Would there be transcriptions available possibly done by any Family History Group?
Appreciate your help

The Genuki site states that Durham RO have the PRs from 1635-1973.
I have no idea regarding FHS groups. Sorry.

http://www.durhamrecordoffice.org.uk/article/11113?SearchType=Param&Variations=N&Parish=Staindrop+St.+Mary+the+Virgin&OrderBy=NAME&ItemID=597941
That is the DRO catalogue listing for their holdings of registers Staindrop St Mary the Virgin.
Family Search indicates that there are transcripts at Newcastle upon Tyne Library,
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/171118?availability=Family%20History%20Library
try a search for the name you are interested in, if that gives you a name and a date then the Library is, I believe, still doing free look ups to see if there is any more info in the transcript - NB they will need a date as they don't have the time to trawl through a time span.

I checked on the NDFHS site and they don't seem to have transcripts of burial for this time frame.

Long shot but if the people you are interested in may have had a will/admin then its worth searching the pre-1858 wills to get a date of death - which would then help with an enquiry to the Library at Newcastle

Many thanks for the great info & links T'Boo
I tried the wills but they have right name, wrong time frame
Appears the Newcastle library site is worth a look to check the PR's. Good to see that there is probably an index available too.
I haven't searched up this end of the country for a long time so your help is very much appreciated.
Cheers - Di

Sorry I may not have been clear.
You could search for the burial on Family Search to hopefully find a date but the library doesn't have anything online. They do seem to still be doing free remote look ups though if you aren't able to visit to look for yourself.
