Boo said that if you could specify a church, you might be able to get a copy of the marriage from Durham Record Office. Possibly rather cheaper than the GRO, plus you get to see original signatures (or marks!)
I was trying to establish from the GRO reference where in Durham district the marriage took place. Parish churches were indexed first, and there will be a running order, with the register office/non PC marriages indexed after those.
As your marriage is indexed so early on in the page range for Durham, it must have been a church wedding. And Benfieldside would seem to be the first (or just possibly second), church in the running order.
