Harrison of Staithes N Yorkshire
« on: Monday 24 January 22 16:37 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,
I need some help if possible please, this is regarding a Mary Harrison born in Staithes and Baptised in Hinderwell in 1794. She had a illegitimate son called Thomas Harrison born in 1813. The details i have state that his father was a William Goodwill,. That's all i have so i am trying to find more information about Mary Harrison, did she marry etc and of course more information about William Goodwill, where was he from, was he local or a visitor to the area etc.
Thanking you all for your time in this matter and hoping for some help
Many Thanks
Mike Fletcher

What sources named the father?
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Hi Pauline,
He was named on Thomas Harrisons (1814) Baptism record. Sorry, in Hinderwell.

Sincere apologies for this - I have seen the parish register entry BUT transcription gives Father's occupation as "Single Woman".   ;D :-X  And no further help at all - sorry  :-X
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

BumbleB,
Yes, i did notice that, strange, unless it meant the mother, Mary Harrison. Still at a loss with this one.

Mary HARRISON baptised at Hinderwell 23 Aug 1794 Father William mother Ann, abode Staithes.

Possible marriage at Hinderwell by Banns 4 Dec 1821 Thomas ABRAMS Bachelor & Mary HARRISON Spinster. Thomas signed Mary marked. Witnesses Jane HARRISON & Israel JEFFERSON. Israel witnessed other marriages.

Possible burial at Hinderwell 13 Feb 1835 of Mary ABRAM. However transcript gives her age as 31 abode Staithes; so born about 1804 if correct.
Also a John ABRAM age 4 months buried 7 Jun 1835 so maybe her son.

Thomas ABRAM (son of Luke ABRAM) does not seem to be married in 1841 census but may marry in Hinderwell 22 Oct 1842 to Frances THURBECK (daur Jacob THURBECK). 1851 census seems to confirm.

Thomas ABRAM buried at Hinderwell 30 Mar 1877 age 77 abode Staithes.

Spelk,
Thank you for your reply, it is definately Mary Harrison born in Staithes and baptised in Hinderwell Aug 1794. I have her death as 1835 and you have the correct mother and father. William Harrison and Ann Thompson. The witness could be her sister Jane. A great start, thank you. I will look into her possible marriage to Thomas Abrams also. Many thanks.

Mike, I’m puzzled. If you did not know she was married how did you come by a year of her death?
