Emma Florence Goodey b: 03.12.1880 Maidenhead Berkshire
« on: Thursday 17 February 22 08:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have hit a brick wall and have some thoughts but wondered if anyone else could add their thoughts or advice please thank you.

I have Emma Florence Goodey b: 03.12.1880 Maidenhead father Alfred Goodey, mother Louisa Goodey nee Dixon (Louisa's family history has been interesting  :D).

Emma appears in the 1881 census with her family:

1881 6 North Cottages North Town Maidenhead
Alfred Goodey HD M 28yrs Platelayer b: Berks Reading
Louisa Goodey WI M 26yrs b: Berks Maidenhead
Lizzie Goodey DA 4yrs  b: Berks Maidenhead
Agnes Goodey DA 3yrs  b: Berks Maidenhead
Ethel Goodey DA 2yrs  b: Berks Maidenhead
Emma Goodey DA 4mons  b: Berks Maidenhead
Helen Pocock Visitor U 19yrs Servant b: Bucks Slough

Helen Pocock is Ellen Pocock found in the 1871 census living in Upton Cum Chalvey Buckinghamshire with Susannah Howard a widow. Ellen is listed as a Nurse child (I am aware of what a Nurse child is).

Emma Florence Goodey has disappeared and is not with her family in the 1891 census or with her older sibling. I have not found a death either. She does not appear in the 1901 or 1911 census either.
Searches for Emma Florence Goodey using:

Emma Florence
Florence Emma
GOODEY
GOODY
GOODAY

have revealed nothing.

New ideas or thoughts would be gratefully accepted please, thank you for your time and consideration.

regards

Sarah

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Is the number of births recorded in 1911 for Louisa correct?

Do you have the family in 1891?

I found them now on Family Search. I can’t see them on Ancestry.  :-\

No Emma though.

Hi Heywood

Thank you I have found them in the 1891 census in Find My Past for some reason Ancestry is not showing that part of Reading that they lived in.

1911 yes I found it strange 4 children born 4 children alive, I have Emma Florence's birth cert she's definitely Alfred's and Louisa's. I am currently waiting for Cyril Goodey who is with them in the 1911 census, his birth cert, Louisa would have been 49yrs old when she had him. Her sister Agnes Kate was the one who was living in the Hackney area.

thanks and regards

Sarah

I had no luck finding Emma either and did wonder whether Cyril was a grand child instead of a son but his birth registration does have mothers maiden name Dixon.

Cyril John Mansfield Goodey is presumably the certificate you have sent for.

Definitely not the right number of children put in 1911 as there were 4 girls on earlier census if I remember right so Cyril makes 5.

Millipede, thank you, yes I am waiting for Cyril's birth cert.

My thoughts about missing Emma are:

Emma Florence may have been given to another family, been given a name change, which means I'll never find her  :-\
(this thought is only because of the Ellen/Helen Pocock who is with the family in the 1881 census).

Emma Florence may have been placed in the workhouse Reading.
(couldn't find her in the 1891 Reading workhouse).

My last resorts are:

Researching the 1939 census, inputting her dob and see how many names 'pop' up.  ::)

Researching Ancestry deaths, inputting her dob in the deaths 1916-2007 and see how many names 'pop' up.  ::)

Sarah

Hi millipede

I have Cyril's birth certificate, he is definitely not Alfred's and Louisa's child and his mother, 1 of Alfred's & Louisa's daughters' has flat out lied on his birth certificate  ;D.

Perhaps merely confused by the question 'mother's maiden name' and gave her mothers and not her own.
