Hi All

John aged 40 so born abt 1811 listed as a Shephard
Donald 21 born abt 1834 Shephard
Robert 19 born abt 1836 Shephard
Ann 17 born abt 1838 Housemaid
Lachlan 15 born abt 1840 Shephard
Catherine 13 born 1842
Christina 10 born abt 1845
Alexander ???? 7 born abt 1848
Allan 4 born 1851
ALL could read and wright
Is there any way some could track them down in the census ? or BDM
any assistance would be most appreciated

What is their surname? You should be able to find them in both the 1841 and 1851 Scottish censuses.

There doesn’t appear to be a mother for the children in your list of names. Didn’t she travel with her family?

Added: Is the surname Campbell, and is mother’s name Catherine?  :-\

If so, John was born in Kilmonivaig, Invernesshire - others also born Kilmonivaig or Kilmallie. Address on 1851 census in Callart, Inverness. If this is your family some of the children from your list are not at home - possibly working away from home. I haven’t looked for them though.

Hi Rod
You could try sites Free Cen and Free Reg. not complete coverage throughout  UK but some places 100% the Inverness-shire 1851 census is 100%.  Free BMD  does not cover Scotland.
When you find your Scottish family pay to view site Scotland's People is very good once you get the hang of it but you can make expensive mistakes .

Doing a search on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Which you would need to register with first will give you the births of the children on the old parish registers
The parents names are John Campbell and Catherine McLachlan

Ruskie has posted where they were on the 1851 census

Some parts of Scotland are covered quite well on Familysearch too, so it is sometimes worth checking there before, or as well as, Scotland’s people (as it can help narrow down the possibly correct record and save you some credits).

In 1841 the family are in Bunchuliie, Kilmonivaig.

There appears to be another son, Angus, who is 7. :-\

I don’t know what Bunchuilie is - possibly name of a farm?

In 1841 the family are in Bunchuliie, Kilmonivaig.

I would suggest looking at the original image on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk to see what the name of the place is as Anc* come up with some strange transcriptions.

Not near as expensive as errors on English BMDs at full price approx. £12 a cert. which would be the equivalent of 8 SP certs?

I've never understood why people keep going on about the cost of SP certs. as they're the cheapest in the world in my experience.
