I notice that in the Statutory Birth search results there is a heading Mothers Maiden Name. It cannot be used, but does anyone know if this search box will be coming in to use, and if so, when?

Do you mean the deaths search page rather than births?

Added: From here www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/guides/statutory-register-births it is mentioned:

People who visit the ScotlandsPeople Centre or local family history centres can also choose to search entries recorded in 1929 and later by mother’s maiden name.

no births.

If you search first then look at results you should see heading for maiden name at top

 ;D See what you mean!

Certainly a new field. It will be a really helpful and useful addition for sure.

If it is anything like what they have been doing with the death search results, likely they will introduce this in stages (year bands maybe?).

The mother's maiden name was only included in the births index from 1929 onwards, so I imagine the answer to your question is in 2030.

You can search for births from 1929 onwards using mother's maiden surname if you are in a Scotland's People Centre, just not online because of the 100-year closure.

However SP have been adding mothers' maiden surnames to the deaths index, and very useful it is too. Maybe when they've completed that they'll start on the births index.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

;D I had just sent you a PM to check whether you had heard anything on this.

Odd that there is nothing on any of their usual news wires on this.

Below is what is now showing on the search results page for births for their data columns included in the results

Robert, a suggestion (in the absence of being able to answer your question  ::)).

Why not email SP and ask the question direct to them.

Like you, I am now curious as to how this could come in to play and when.

They have had a lot of feedback about doing this, following their introduction of mother's maiden name to the death index. Looks like they have been listening hopefully and taking some action.

Hi MonicaL

Heard back from SP this.afternoon.

They say they will look to add Mothers Maiden Name (MMN) to Births - but only when adding the MMN to deaths is completed.

Something to look forward too!!
