George Uvedale Price - Early Life
« on: Thursday 27 April 23 09:22 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

I am undertaking some research about George Uvedale Price (1821 -1891) who rose to the rank of General in the Victorian British Army. I have plenty of information about his life from 1840 when he joined the Army in India but very little about his first 20 years.
I understand that he was born in Roehampton and his father was Richard Price but thats about all I have.
Thanks,
Paul
I lived in Ardwick, Manchester in the early 1960s as a small child and much travelling of the world has now led me to want to know more about my roots. Carter, Beckwith, Connolly, Heron and Kelly are all names that form part of my family tree.

Many thanks.

No chance of seeing him in an early census as he left for India in 1840. Trying to find if he had any siblings etc.

Do you think this could be Elizabeth Engel Price as there is a recod of her death in London in 1847?

Hello
These are the baptisms for his siblings I can find but there may be more as parents seem to have married at Old St Pancras 12.10.1805
Richard Price of st Sepulcre London and Elizabeth Angel Heyman of this  parish  by licence
Augustus 14.6.1813 St Seplucre
Elizabeth Kay 14.2.1815 Mitcham
Rosina Mar 14.6./11.7.1816 Putney

Richard 5.3/1.4.1820
Frances Henrietta 8.6./15.7. 1824
Anna Maria 1.10.1825
Catherine 4 Dec 1827 Putney

There is a suggestion the older siblings are Amelia 1806,Mary 1808 and Isabella Frances 1810 but I can't see them on line.

Richard's probate was given in 1881 for under  £12000 to Sir Arthur James Rugge Price baronet.

There are various trees for this family on Ancestry - George appears to be one of 14 children: Amelia 1806, Richard 1807 (presumably died), Lydia Barbara 1808, Isabella Frances 1810, Augustus 1813, Elizabeth Kay 1815, Rosina Mary 1816, Charlotte Augusta 1817, Edward Ralph 1818, Richard 1820, George 1821 (as noted), Frances Henrietta 1824, Anna Maria 1825, Catherine Harriet 1827.

More details about some of them on the trees.

Many thanks All. I asked for siblings and I certainly got them...... :)

I know that George Uvedale Price joined the Indian Army as a gentleman cadet in 1840. Details of the the years from his birth to then are still to be revealed.
