"Job Noon" Arrived in Australia When?
« on: Thursday 01 June 23 09:12 BST (UK) »
i have it that the parents of Anne Noon 1860-1919 were Job Noon and Mary Slater as given in Queensland Death Registry on-line. There is a death Registry for Job as 30 Jan 1922 and via Trove The Bundaberg Mail 9 Feb 1922 gives "There passed away in this district a very old pioneer in the person of Job Noon...he was in his 83rd year.... and later says "none of his family are living"  This looks like the Job i'm interested in but have not been able to find when and how he arrived in Australia. I had a suspicion he may have been a convict but found nothing that matches his age. Any help would be appreciated

There are these records - also included in a published tree

Job Noon Jnr 22 yrs Ag Lab
Mary Ann -do- 22 yrs
Matilda -do- 3 yrs
Ann -do- 1 yr
Susanna Slatter visitor 43 yrs

The census seems to show ‘jnr’ but his father is Samuel on the marriage certificate

There are two births in Queensland to Job Noon and Elizabeth Dumbleton. Mary Jane 1867 and Kate 1869, so this suggests Job arrived in Australia after his marriage in 1864 and before Mary Jane was born in 1867.

The Charters Towers Historical Society published a photo on Facebook with caption "Mary Jane Noon was a colonial born girl, born 7 June 1867 at Irraway Station, Gayndah. Her father was Job Noon and mother Elizabeth Dumbleton, both of whom had emigrated from England on the ship “Sultana” in 1866. Job and Elizabeth worked on the station and he was employed as a shepherd. At age 17, Mary Jane commenced working as a domestic servant.
Also details her marriage and family with Lee Wah Shang... very interesting. So this gives me the ship and year which i was after so i say BINGO. Thanks for all your help
