You can view his birth record on
www.scotlandspeople.gov
for a small fee that will give you his parents names .

Hi Harwood
There is a brief online tree which gives his birth date as 20 December 1920 (this is also shown on his death registration in Liverpool, August 1996). Likely this birth on the birth index if you are confident about a Kirkcaldy birth place:
ANDREW MURRAY
1920
Ref 442 / 1151
Kirkcaldy
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
The only thing of note on that online tree is that his father's name is given as Henry Murray (maybe from his marriage reg in England?).

Just from the 1921 index and a general search (you would need to view the original image for the full details and confirmation), there is this possible entry:
Henry B Murray 25
Andrew Murray 0
This is in Wemyss, Fife. Ref 459/1 4/ 32
As a guess, there is this possible marriage for parents:
HENRY BROWN MURRAY
and
JEANIE WEIR
1919
Ref 442 / 131
Kirkcaldy and Abbotshall
Again, the image is available to download on SP.

That sounds promising Monica,
Being in the RAF & awarded a DFM, you would have thought there would be more about him on line ?

Are you related to him, Harwood?
There are likely mentions of his award in The Gazette and newspapers perhaps? Have you checked to see?
