Help finding an obituary please
« on: Thursday 27 July 23 14:00 BST (UK) »
Just got a telephone call to say a relative in Australia died (I got news at least third hand so no details). Last known address was Byron Bay NSW but Christmas cards stopped a few years ago
Born 1928 in Northern Ireland so might have been in care home or unwell for quite a while.
There was a daughter & a son who didn't keep in touch. Also a twin sister in Australia who may, or may not, be living.
Can anyone suggest best place for a recent obituary (hoping he was somewhere around Byron Bay area)?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

You could try doing a search of ryersonindex.com it may tell you which newspaper it was in, if it was 2020 and later it may reference the funeral director's website.

Trove - Australian papers on line.
https://trove.nla.gov.au/search/advanced/category/newspapers

The papers for NSW go up to 2008. But you needn't confine the check to one state.

You can also do a wide to narrow search by going directly to news sites ie Sydney Morning Herald Tributes

Or as an example go to Byron Bay

Many thanks for the suggestions. It sounds as though the death might have been very recent. Unfortunately no luck but will keep trying in case a death notice or obituary isn't online yet.
I also used those links to find his twin sister- one person with same as her 1st name and married surname but no other details to confirm or rule the entry out.

You could try the newspapers in the area.

If you found the possible twin sister on Ryerson Index, you can ask them for a lookup. However, this might take a while as the site is run by volunteers.

Thank you. Have re-checked all of the resources listed, and more, for both of the twins without anything yet.

Hi If they died in NSW and left an estate there might be a probate notice

check this site

https://www.supremecourt.justice.nsw.gov.au/Pages/sco2_probate/online_probate_notices/online_probate_notices.aspx

I am not aware if there are similar sites in other states

Good Luck

Cass
