I presume this is who you are referring to  :-\
Wed 24 Jul 1940
MR. W. HODGETTS.
Mr. William Hodgetts died on Wed-
nesday, after a long illness, aged 75. He
was born at Staffordshire, England, and
came to Australia at the age of 25. He
was engaged in mining at Wallarah more
than 40 years ago, and was in business in Cessnock.
He is survived by his wife and three
children, Mrs. J. Conlan , Mr William Hodgetts ,
and Mr. Joseph Hodgetts ................

Presumably as he is including Elsie (Conlan) as one of his children then his other children were William and Joseph - where were they born - what information is given for their mother

*another list with the same people has different ages
Ann 35
Elizabeth 10
Elsie 6
Louisa 22

Interestingly I have a DNA match for someone's tree that has a Lousia Hodgetts B:1875 D:1948 in NSW.
The Louisa listed on this passenger list could be her.
Ages for Elsie and Lousia match.

I will have to wait a while to get Elsie's marriage certificate.

Thank you to everyone who was helped out so far. Lots more research to be done.

Those shipping lists are often wrong, I have seen people change sex between departing and arriving.

Louisa was already married and had two children who were both females but the arrival of the ship into Victoria has her surname as HOGGETTS, wife, two children not named, one female aged 2 and a half, and one male aged 1.

Thanks Debra. The DNA that I am linked to in a tree is for Lousia Hodgetts - 2 children born in Chestershire? and her next child born in Australia (1900). Her eldest childed died in Aus...  Not sure why she would have traveled with her maiden name though. Her married name was Whitehouse. To be fair I could be looking at the wrong people completely. There is no way of knowing for sure...

Gives me something more to research since I recently solved a 12yr long mystery for another family member in the tree.  ;D

Joseph definitely wasn't aged 53.  It would be interesting to see if he is that age on the death cert and if so how they work out the math for age at marriage and the ages of his children.
