Have you considered that Duncan Ferguson may not have married Catherine Campbell at all, and that David's birth was registered as David Campbell?

Have you found David in any census?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi Monica,
Duncan Ferguson's 2nd marriage in 1889 to Agnes Millar records him aged 30 and a 'Milk Salesman' I believe.  The marriage was registered under sheriff warrant at 138 George Street, Glasgow.
I have all the other documents and census records etc for my Grandfather after 1911 but nothing earlier - Such a mystery!
I have searched for David using the surname Campbell also.  I had wondered if his parents were not married but since discovering that my GGrandfather is recorded as a widower on his 2nd marriage I'm inclined to believe they were.
Thank you for the interest and ideas!!

David's death reg gives slightly different details and shows his father as John Ferguson and Catherine Campbell, both deceased.

Yes, That confused me for a long time!  Thank you for looking at this!  However, I believe the surviving family gave the name John in error, given the passing of time.  He died in the 60s.
Both his marriage record and a newspaper clipping from the time, name Duncan as his father with an address that matches -  I used to visit the wider family nearby regularly as a child!  Why didn't I ask them all then!!??  I've recently connected with a DNA match who has been able to tell me more about the family - Its amazing!
It's my GGrandmother who is now the mystery!  I'm looking at cemeteries, hospital and asylum records now.  I'd love to find out more about her and am determined!!
Thank you so much for looking at this, I really appreciate other people's perspectives!
Janet

.... One of the witnesses was a Donald Ferguson, address for him The Lodge, Kilfinan. Donald F shows on the Valuation Rolls for 1920 at North Lodge, Kilfinan. The 1921 census for him might help here.

This Donald Ferguson was the son of a John Ferguson and Catherine McIntyre and born on 13 Apr 1862 in Kilmartin, Argyll.

He married a Mary Birt in Kilfinan in 1884. Looks to have remained in Kilfinan. Big family!

I wonder how, or if, he connected to David C on a family line?

Yes, there were 7 of them I believe.  I have also connected to Donald's GGGrandaughter.  Eventually we'll all be connected!
The Oban Times BDMs published my Grandparents wedding announcement and it named his father
& his address which was Cross keys, Helensburgh.  We used to visit my Dad's family at Luss.  I didn't really know who they all were then but wish I'd paid more attention!

What names did Duncan give for his parents in 1889 when he married Agnes Millar?

Added: Just seen the marriage cert on someone's tree. So Duncan and Donald were brothers? Duncan's parents also showing as John Ferguson and Catherine McIntyre.
