My line is from Alexander (1722-1802) and Helen Ross (1745-), Walter Joss (1780-1862) and Ann Mackay (1784-1854).

Have you had your DNA done? I would think it would show us as related because I come from the same family line...

You should only be half-related to John Joass 1770 as you are not related to his mother Mary Duncan. On ancestry it says that I am DNA-related to people coming from Walter Barron Joss 1806-1856 , Isabe Joss 1808 (my great grandmother) , Helen Joss 1813-1888 and Walter Joss 1822 ... those are all siblings and children of Walter Joass 1780 ships carpenter (not the other Walter born same year) and Ann Mckay , except Walter Barron's mother is Elizabeth Barron.

Which way do you fit into Ann McKay and Walter Joass family?

I know the kids are Isobel 1808 , Helen 1813 , John 1815

Also a Walter who's birth doc is missing but his death shows he was born 1822

Hello Alan, my line is from James Joass 1820-1884 who married Elizabeth Duff (1821-1889), they had four children, one being James Duff Joass (1842-1922).  JDJ went on to marry Elizabeth Melmeth (1848-1906) in Australia. He and the family then migrated to New Zealand with the exception of Eliza Ann Joass (1865-1938) who was the only child married at the time. She married John Smith (1855-1934) and they are my great grandparents.

We don't seem to be a DNA match using your kit number in gedmatch or on Ancestry. My thinking is that our match is below the threshold and therefore is not reported as a match.

It would be good to see your tree on Ancestry in order to check some of the common ground but also, perhaps solve some of the mysteries of our common ancestors.

Cheers.

Craig

It took me quite a bit of searching and head scratching to put it all together...

I kept thinking you were related to Helen Ross and trying to factor that in.  We already figured out that John Joass 12/04/1770 was half-brother to Walter 1780 and not the son of Helen Ross but instead Mary Duncan.

So there is the reason right there that the DNA is not showing up. Too weak as John and Walter are half brothers with different moms.

Still good to know Alexander Joass 1722 farmer of Burnside is your grandfather!
