I did try Family Search for Kenya but they have nothing of use to me there. The Portsmouth newspaper seems interesting but I haven't a sub to the archive so can't pursue it any further and it doesn't appear on FindMyPast either.
The Kenya Gazette seems difficult to access?

Searching for "Kenya Gazette" and Metherell generates a few results.

Thank you GrahamSimons, at least now I have his death date. I wonder what happened to his widow, Diana Sedgwick nee Bessant?
Looks like I have to search FindMyPast again heywood!
