Mary McDonald

I'm trying to find the 1891 Census for my 3rd great-grandmother, Mary McDonald.

She was born 13th November 1859 in Shettleston.

She married James O'Hara on 20th August 1880 in Camlachie.

In the 1881 Census she is named as Mary McDonald, living with her parents in Camlachie.

Her surviving children in 1891 would be:

William O'Hara born 2nd January 1887 in Blackfriars
Joseph Roger (illegitimate) born 9 December 1889 in Blackfriars.

Her husband James O'Hara allegedly died in 1888 and she then had her son Joseph Roger with a man called John Roger, Iron Foundry Labourer. Mary McDonald was a Shawl Fringer when her son Joseph was born. Joseph was born at 118 George Street

Possible remarriage in 1899 Glasgow and death in 1909 Cambuslang for Mary.

Yes that's right.

She married Thomas Lochhead on 8 December 1899 in Blackfriars although Thomas was already married to someone else at the time. Thomas and Mary also had 2 children, George (1900-1900) and Thomas (1901-1981)

She died on 18th February 1909 in Cambuslang. Her informant was her son William O'Hara but he had changed his name to William Lochhead. Mary was also listed as a widow although her husband hadn't died until 1925.

There has been a lot of name changes between her children as different combinations of O'Hara, Lochhead, Mc/MacDonald.

I have Mary McDonald in 1881 and 1901 but can't find her in 1891. She could have any surname between McDonald, O'Hara, Roger and maybe something else I haven't found yet.

I know in 1889 she was living at 118 George Street and by 1893 she was living at 120 Saltmarket.

There is this entry in Glasgow for 1891:

John Campbell 31 Borler - Maker (boiler?) b. Glasgow
Mary Campbell 30 Shawl fringer b. Glasgow
William O Hara Campbell 4 M Son b. Glasgow

Address 30 N Portland St, Glasgow/ Blackfriars

Wondering if the original image might show William as 4 years old rather than 4 months. Worth checking?

No sign of Joseph Roger b. 1889 in this listing.

Well done MonicaL think you are correct she is in the right area right age and William is the link ( if Joseph hasn't died maybe he is with father or grand parents).

Just seen the other thread that he died in 1898 father informant so seems he must be with him or grand parents in the census. They are all living very close to each other Kent St Green St George St N Portland St only a few minutes apart it wouldnt be hard for him to be missed in the Census I suppose.
