I need help to find death records
« on: Wednesday 20 March 24 16:55 GMT (UK) »
I just cannot find two death records.
One is for a Philip McCree / Macrae / McRae, and the other is for his wife, Mary Ann Howell, maiden surname Williams.
The last entry I have for them is on the 1861 census, when they are living at 41 Church Street, Stepney.
I can then see an entry for Philip on 18th June 1862 when he was admitted to the Whitechapel Union Infirmary with a fever, and discharged on 16th July 1862. His address was given as 11 Unanimous Row.
I am trying to find these deaths, because their son Philip George Alexander (known as Alexander) who was born 16th April 1850, appears in the far north west of Scotland in 1866, when he was registered for Poor Relief, and stated to be an orphan and a "lunatic".
He is on the census returns for 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901, in Ullapool.
On the 1911 census, he is living with my great-grandmother in Ullapool.
I am presuming that Alexander's parents must have died sometime between 1861 and 1866, but I just can't find any records.
Any help will be very gratefully received.

If McCree was mis transcribed as McGee, then there is this one, although I can see the age is way off.

Also…how did the son get to Ullapool?  Did a surviving parent take him and then die up there?

What were their respective birthyears?

Have you already checked Scottish deaths?

Have you used GRO online - you can use the “phonetically similar” or “similar sounding” options by tapping the “Exact search” to open the menu

Oh wow..............
I have the marriage record for Philip McCree and Mary Ann Howell for 27 September 1847, in Stoke Damerel (which is an area of Plymouth). It states that he was a bachelor, a mariner, residing in Stoke (which is another area of Plymouth).
Philip states that his father was a boatbuilder called Christopher.
I had no idea that Philip had a son named William - I wonder who his mother was, and where did he disappear to, as there is no mention of him, with Mary Ann and Philip on any census records.
Another mystery to be solved.............
On the 1841 census, Mary Ann Howell is living with her husband, William Howell, at 56 George Street, Stonehouse, Plymouth. William Howell died at that same address on 16 May 1847 - then 4 months later, she marries Philip.
And then there is research to be done on Philip's sister, Kitty (Catherine? Katherine?)
So many questions yet to be answered, but I can't thank you enough for this info (where did you find this?)

I have no birth records for either Philip or Mary Ann, but from ages given on census records, I would estimate that Philip was born between 1800 and 1810.
Mary Ann was baptised on 01 January 1803.

I have checked both English and Scottish death records using every spelling that I can think of.

It's driving me mad..................

Gosh.............I wish I knew how the son get up to Ullapool, however, I now know that he was registered for Poor Relief in Ullapool on 30 October 1866, and is stated to be the orphan son of Philip Macrae, who was a native of Annat, Lochbroom.
