I think I have now found  the will of Janes‘s father George written  May 7, 1873 and probated July 29, 1875. If Samuel‘s death is correct as to the name of his mother, then George must’ve remarried to a Jane Gordon as per the names in his will. And this Jane survived him.

On findagrave, there is a George Orr who died 1875 on the same headstone as a Jane Orr who died 1861. I am thinking that could be Jane McClelland.

Thanks for all these great and informative obits, Sandra. Thanks to you,  I think we have sorted out most things in this family although still not the mother of James Johnston who died 1881. May never do also I am wondering if it was a McClelland since James had a brother John McClelland Johnston. Still want to sort out the parents of the children for whom Matthew Mawhinney was a guardian in 1885.
I gave some thought to the children of James Johnston and Jane Orr but they didn’t have an Emma or Sarah.
Peggy
I see the new obits you have found, Sandra, adding to the family. You are incredible.

I have found an online tree that says Jane Orr had an older unnamed sister born 1831 and died 1849 who had married David Shaw and had a son Joseph Shaw in 1849. That sorts out the grandson Joseph Shaw for George Orr who died 1875.  David and Joseph are on the 1850 census with George and Jane.
