John Charles LINDSAY, Born 16/03/1831, Southwark
« on: Thursday 23 May 24 20:54 BST (UK) »
Hello,

His parents were John LINDSAY (LINDSEY), a Labourer, and his wife Eliza.   He reputedly had a brother, Edwin.

I can find none of these four people in the 1841 Census.   John Charles LINDSAY was transported to VDL in April 1850 and the remaining three do not appear in any following Census.

Hopefully someone can help please??

Thank you

BAC3

There is a John Charles Lindsay age 16 sentenced to 7 years transportation on 19 October 1847 in Essex.

Where are you getting the information from?

The newspaper report said the crime occurred in Havering. Could the family be living in that area in 1841?

Havering is in  Essex, or was till they changed the boundaries a few years ago, might be East London now.

Convicted 19 October 1847, Transported 23 March 1850 ship Bleheim  to VDL.

So he is the Essex one.

4 February 1848 Chelmsford Chronicle.
An account -paraphrasing the constable traced them to Navestock, George Bell had stolen the watch, John Charles Lindsay 16 a painter had received it, both got the same sentence.

ADDED
The ship arrived 24 July 1850

I looked on The Trove and couldn't find the reference you gave. I admit to not being an expert on searching that website.

Could you quote from the Tasmanian Convict Documentation please.
