Henry Joseph Pilgrim
« on: Sunday 21 July 24 19:54 BST (UK) »
I've found Henry Joseph's baptism at St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey to Henry Pilgrim, plasterer, and Sophia,
On the image on Ancestry, it shows the baptism date as 11 June 1809. Birth is given as May 21 with 1801 written above.

I think the parents are Henry Coxon Pilgrim and Sophia Groutage who married at St Giles Cripplegate 1 May 1808 . The only other child I've found in bermondsey is Robert 1811. Henry is a plasterer here as well. I can't find any other children which seems strange as there's such a gap.

There's a James pilgrim baptised 1817 nonconformist to Henry and Sophia pilgrim. I found a James William pilgrim marrying in 1846 who gives Henry Joseph Pilgrim plasterer as his father. On James's baptism, the mother is named as Sophia.

Can anyone find a marriage between Henry Joseph and Sophia? Or any other children to either Henry?

Thanks

Hi
Well it has to be said that both FamilySearch and FreeReg give Henry Joseph's birth date as 21 May 1809
https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/624b8b78f493fdd0980fab0f

If so he won't have been the father of James born 1817.
Baptism record for James gives his father as Henry Coxen Pilgrim. Mother Sophia
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NPZJ-ZKM

Possibility perhaps for Henry junior in 1851 in Westminster? Age 40, born Bermondsey, and married to Maria
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SG6T-PNR

Did he die the following year? New GRO index has not got his name quite right
PILGREN, HENRY  JOSEPH
Age at Death (in years): 43
GRO Reference: 1852  J Quarter in SAINT GEORGE HANOVER SQUARE  Volume 01A  Page 145

Hi
Yes, ancestry records the dob as 1809 but that's when his baptism was. On the far left of the entry on the image of the original record, it gives the date of birth with 1801 over the top?

I think that applies to the child above Henry Joseph.

Robert was buried 13 Jan 1812 age 9mths, abode Five Bell Court.

There is also a Henry Pilgrim buried 05 Nov 1820 age 36
Abode Star Corner

There's a Henry Joseph Pilgrim death in 1852. GRO site age as 43 (surname transcribed as Pilgren on GRO). Might be him if year of birth is 1809.

A possibility

James William (married 1846) is son of Henry Joseph, grandson of Henry and nephew of Joseph (no middle name) and Robert.

Scrub that, this was thinking HJ was born 1801.
Just found marriage cert, and JW must be the James bapt 1817 from age at marriage. As his father seems to have died when he was very young, maybe he just assumed his name was Henry James like his brother.
